Volunteer Services

Priority Hospice provides support and comfort to patients and families as they meet the unique challenges of terminal illness. Our team of nurses, social workers, chaplains, home health aides and volunteers works together to add quality to life when quantity is limited.

Volunteers bring caring concern, comfort, and compassion to patients and families. Frequently it is the volunteer, offering patience, presence, and listening skills, who is sensitive to unique needs, and is able to communicate those needs to Priority Hospice.

Giving time and talents as a volunteer means receiving much in return. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, whether you have limited time to give or have a more flexible schedule. And if you prefer, there are volunteer opportunities beyond working with patients and families that help support the work and purpose of Priority Hospice.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

PATIENT AND FAMILY SERVICES

Priority Hospice volunteers offer help and comfort to the terminally ill and their families. Patient care volunteers spend a minimum of four hours a week providing companionship and emotional support, helping in the home, and offering respite to the caregiver. Volunteers are generally assigned one patient at a time.

BREAVEMENT FOLLOW-UP

Volunteers contact grieving family members by phone, mail, or personal visits, and work with support groups, enhancing the efforts of our professional counselors.

ADMINISTRATIVE/OFFICE SUPPORT

Volunteers assist in the office by providing help with special projects, mailings, and clerical support.

SPEAKERS BUREAU

Our experienced volunteers assist with community educating and public speaking.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Volunteers help with memorial services, fundraising events, conferences or seminars and other special events.

COMMITTEE MEMBER

Some volunteers choose to share their professional expertise by serving as a member on various committees.

TRAINING

Patient and family support volunteers complete an initial 20 hours of training and are offered additional training throughout the year. Bereavement follow-up volunteers complete an 11-hour training session and are offered additional training throughout the year. Speakers Bureau volunteers receive three hours of training in addition to orienting through accompanying an experienced speaker.

Most volunteer opportunities require a minimum of four hours per week and can be scheduled during day, evening, or week end.
